About the Organisation:

Ricefield Arts and Cultural Centre is at the forefront in the exploration of Chinese arts and culture in Scotland by delivering arts and crafts workshops, organising cultural events, producing exhibitions, and creating various arts development and community engagement projects.
We have an excellent reputation for leading the field as an arts and cultural organisation in Scotland which functions to serve schools, community organisations, public institutions, arts audiences, the Chinese and diverse communities in Scotland.
About the Role:
As part of our ‘When Red, Go Green’ climate change project Ricefield Arts is developing community growing spaces in Glasgow. Our aim is to encourage people to reduce their carbon footprint by using local produce, and when possible grow their own food at home. The growing spaces will be used to grow mainly Chinese vegetables, which will be shared with local people and used in our cookery workshops. The Community Gardener will maintain this garden, and use their expertise to engage with visitors and support gardening workshops.
Duties:
- Working with the Project Officer and project volunteers to create growing spaces
- Maintaining growing spaces and liaising with persons within the spaces
- Supporting the project volunteers to learn gardening skills
- Engaging with garden visitors and sharing knowledge of our climate change project activities
- Aiding with the delivery of gardening workshops
- Providing regular updates on progress to Project Officer
Experience/skills required:
- Gardening in professional context
- Knowledge of growing Chinese plants
- Communicating with diverse audiences
- Problem solving abilities
- Awareness of climate change issues
Location: Glasgow city
Hours worked: Part-time, 32 hours per month (Approx 8 Hours per week)
Contract: Freelance, 9 months duration (1st Feb to 31st October 2019)
