Tell us about your business.

We make brand and business work in harmony.

Outlaw Creative is a strategic branding agency. We work with purpose-led brands to help them build and refine their identity - behaviourally, visually, and tonally. We have a simple ethos: “Everything we create should fix a problem.” That’s why our process starts with accurate diagnosis, because if you don’t identify and analyse the challenges, you don’t have a strategy.

Once we know the business challenges, we work collaboratively with key stakeholders to create a strategy that is simple, clear, and provides a solid framework for future decision making.

But a strategy is only useful if it is implemented correctly. That’s why we offer ongoing support to the brands we work with. We create brand assets that align with the strategy, and support brands through ongoing account planning and brand management.

We do not aim to run with the herd, because herd mentalities are rarely unique and are even more rarely nuanced. We strive to go against the grain, leading with empathy and daring to disrupt in a way that makes people sit up and listen – provided there’s something of worth to say in the first place.

We don’t create for the sake of creating. We only create when there is an admirable purpose in mind, which is why we endeavour to have and maintain a portfolio that wholly consists of purpose-led businesses.

What has been your proudest moment so far?

Short-term thinking is killing our planet, and it’s killing brands too. It makes them less profitable, less salient, and less sustainable, and we’re not ok with that. In fact, it got so deep under our skin that we changed our whole business model.

Pivoting from being a digital marketing agency that offered everything from social media management to email marketing, and everything in between, was a monumental task. It took incredible levels of effort, commitment, and bravery from each member of our small team to strip back our services and create an offering of greater, long-term value but it was a change we saw as highly necessary.

Now known as the brand strategy people who specialize in creating the brands of the future that have the long-term in mind, we are better positioned to support businesses cut through all the complexity of our volatile world in order to survive and thrive in a post-pandemic world.

How does your company play it's part in helping the environment?

At Outlaw Creative, we are committed to using our business as a force for good. We are currently on a journey to becoming a B Corp Certified company as we aim to meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.

Becoming carbon negative as soon as possible is a commitment we are working hard to achieve as we seek to make more conscious decisions that better protect the climate, support biodiversity, and benefit local communities.

How is your company helping the environmental sector?

In our ongoing effort to actively put people and planet over profit, we have been busy over the past year working to set up a number of purpose-led initiatives, namely My Carbon Zero, The Pond Foundation, and FoodHeroScot – all of which we are founding members.

My Carbon Zero focusses on assisting and empowering individuals to take their own climate action. With them, we are assisting in informing the strategic direction of the initiative, in addition to supporting on app design and development.

It is an initiative of The Pond Foundation, whom we have provided support regarding its functional contents and launch, in addition to facilitating branding workshops and collaboratively refreshing their visual identity.

FoodHeroScot – an eco-campaign focused on celebrating sustainable Food & Drink brands in Scotland, with a prize pot worth £250,000 of in-kind services – is likewise a tremendously exciting initiative to co-lead and create.

We are also currently doing a lot of work with family-run businesses through our partnership with The Scottish Family Business Association. Making up 65% of all Scottish businesses, family-run businesses have a significant impact on local economies and communities. Because these businesses stem from family, we have seen that they already have the love, care, and empathy in their DNA that’s required to build a more sustainable and purpose-led future.

In recent news, we created a free E-Guide for family business members to download, providing insight and encouragement those that are leading the way, whilst also offering helpful solutions for those looking to implement a long-term strategic framework in order to take their ambitious brand one step further towards putting people and planet over profit.

Why did you join the Bright Green Business Network?

We joined so that we could benefit from the amazing network that the Bright Green Business Network provides. There will forever be so much for us to learn and we want to ensure that our continual learning is guided and influenced by those that are accomplishing genuine impact, as opposed to those who blatantly greenwash.

We are also incredibly thankful for the regular membership updates we receive on the legislation surrounding The Climate Change Act, which has committed the UK to ‘net zero’ by 2050. Through our membership, our knowledge base has grown significantly, ultimately helping us make more informed, sustainable decisions throughout our business.
