The Circular Economy Internship Scheme

What is the Circular Economy Internship Scheme?

Zero Waste Scotland offers a Circular Economy Business Support Service to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) looking to explore, develop and implement circular business models. It does this by providing free and flexible consultancy support covering activity from ideation to commercialisation.

With the help of Bright Green Business, The Circular Economy Internship Scheme aims to compliment the Circular Economy Business Support Service by creating capacity within a company to assist with the development of a circular product of service. By promoting and supporting circular economy Internships, Zero Waste Scotland hopes to broaden the knowledge and skillset of young adults, allowing them to endorse and embed Circular Economy principles within their placement organisations, as well as organisations that they may work for in the future.

This year, 10 companies across Scotland are benefitting from this scheme:

origin Plastics Ltd
Edinburgh Remakery
Carbogenics
The East Africa Sisal Company Ltd T/A Sisaltech
Pennotec (Pennog Ltd) with Farne Salmon & Trout Ltd
UniGreenScheme
SEM
Revive Eco
Renewable Parts and KR Group (Kr Cladding)

Each company has its own unique project which will be developed by an enthusiastic Intern throughout the 12 weeks.

The Intern will be managed and supported by a supervisor at the company and a mentor at Bright Green Business.

As a result, the business will get a fully funded placement (thanks to Zero Waste Scotland), a job done in a matter of weeks and the Intern will gain relevant work experience to kickstart their career in the environmental sector.

It's a win - win
