How does it work?

Costs

Host organisations are charged weekly. The weekly charge includes the intern's weekly wage and the BGB administration fee which includes full recruitment and the management of contracts, HR, payroll, and mentorship. Speak to a member of the BGB for more information.

We are a Real Living Wage Employer!

Why?

Because it's the right thing to do.

Interns are paid a minimum of £9.90 per hour

Who have we worked with?

Ecologi - Tree Planting

We have pledged to plant 25 trees and offset 0.5 tons of carbon for every placement we take on.

This will be your 'forest'. You'll be able to track the trees growing from saplings to mature trees.

You can view our forest here.

What do our EPPs have to say?

Waste & Recycling Researcher

"My placement has helped me to develop not only my knowledge of the circular economy and its applications, but also gain practical work experience in an environmentally driven green business." - Lucy Chappel

Circular Design Engineer

"Working with Origin Plastics, made possible by funding from Zero Waste Scotland and managed by Bright Green Business was a great launchpad for my career. It gave me the real-world experience in sustainability and design that I needed." - Ross Bakke

Blue Economy Intern

"This internship has provided me with the stepping stone needed to enter a career in marine science and policy. It has been fundamental in both increasing my policy experience, but also in working on scientific reporting in a professional context." Lucy Jenkins

Citizens' Assembly Project Officer

"The Environmental Placement Programme has had a major impact on both my eligibility for exciting opportunities in the environmental sector, and my confidence as a young(ish) professional. I have definitely sharpened valuable skills, I’ve built a network, and I’ve gained real experience climate policymaking that will serve me well going forward." - Scott McLean

Net Zero Researcher

"My time at Sunamp has allowed me develop my research skills further while giving me the confidence to know that I can achieve my objectives. I have always been passionate about the environment and this opportunity has enabled me to kickstart my career in the exciting but very important environmental sector." - Ovie Frederick-Simon

What do our hosts have to say?

"Nina has fitted into the team very well and has proved herself a diligent and capable worker. She has managed to fit a vast amount of background research and practical work into a short time period and has been meticulous in her record keeping and reporting. We have thoroughly enjoyed hosting and hope that we have sparked an interest in remaining in the technical sector once her studies are complete."

"The experience has been highly essential for both the company and the intern as we were interacting and exchanging knowledge previously collected in both academia and the industrial sector to increase the potential for the business we undertake. The online events organised by the BGB were extremely helpful for the intern to understand the purpose of the Circular Economy principle."

"Shree has contributed to many tasks positively providing good textbook knowledge of environmental information and implementing the use of a digital package we had not come across, so it really gave a diverse feel to our media content. She has a positive attitude and genuine interest in this field."

"Hosting a placement with Bright Green Business has been an excellent experience for me and my team. BGB were communicative and responsive throughout the process, clearly setting out what was needed from me at each stage. I worked with Rachel McCaw, who ensured that the process of taking on an intern was extremely smooth from start to finish. When there were complexities from my side in terms of signing off a contract extension, she was understanding and patient, adapting her approach to suit the needs of myself and others. I really appreciate her support and would be glad to work with her again in future."
