Our top tips to ace your interview!

It can be competitive when many candidates with similar qualifications are trying to achieve the same opportunity. But there are many tips and tricks to help distinguish yourself and stand out from the crowd. In this blog, we have compiled a shortlist of things you should know and be prepared for during an interview whether it be online or in person.

Here's what you need to know!

Do your research on the company you are applying to. This shows you are interested in what the company does and its background. Visit their website and collect information prior to the interview about the history and values of the company. You may be asked questions related to the job or company so it's good to be prepared in advance to answer them!

Be punctual at your interview. It is mandatory that you are on time for your interview. Turning up late or not showing up at all will greatly reduce your chances of being successful. Being punctual not only shows the employer how organised you are as a person, but also makes a good first impression. If you know that you are unable to attend the interview at the set time, let them know as early as possible to allow it to be rescheduled.

Be prepared for your interview. This will show the employer that you are motivated and serious about the position. Make sure that your CV and cover letter are up to date and bring them along with you in case they ask for them. Be sure to include your references! If your interview is online, make sure you have set up a stable internet connection in advance as well as test any technology you plan on using.

Look smart for your interview. This will show the employer that you made some effort for them to take notice of you. You can check the dress code with the employer or smart casual never fails to impress.

A shirt and tie or smart casual clothes are acceptable and for men, make sure your beard is trimmed neatly. If your interview is scheduled to be online, make sure you set up your camera to have a plain background behind you.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. Asking bad questions or no questions at all is one of the main reasons people struggle to stand out. Try and get as much information out of them as you can. Good questions to ask might include; about the job, what training you might receive at the start, what sort of tasks you would be working on, or even just asking more about the company background.

If you follow these tips then we have no doubt it will increase your chances of being a successful candidate. Now go out there and ace that interview!
